The choir in action
The choir has made a small number of recordings. One of the songs in our repertoire, Songs from a Swahili phrasebook, was specially written by Andy setting to music the poem, 'From a Swahili phrasebook' by Keith Armstrong, a local poet.
Early in 2006 we were contacted by Matthew Burge, who was making a film about Keith Armstrong and wanted us to record the song on film on the beach at Marsden Rock.
The vocal recording was done in North Road Methodist Church prior to our trip to Marsden Rock, so the filming involved synchronising our singing with the recording, no easy task for Andy who could only hear the recording while he was conducting us. We were extremely lucky with the weather. It was cloudy but the sea was sparkling silver and calm. There was a lot of waiting around while shots were set up, not uncommon on film sets, I'm told, but we relaxed with a coffee on the terrace of the cafe, and some far-sighted people brought binoculars to study the hundreds of sea birds.
