Children's Choir: 'The Scratchetts'

  Hi!

We are 5 of the older people at the Scratchetts. Our names are Megan, Niamh, Amber, Kirsty and Angel. Although we are all very different, we all have one thing in common. No matter what - we all LOVE singing, any shape or form.

We love coming on Tuesday nights to see our friends and to sing. We all get on really well with our conductor, Bridie. She makes up great warm ups and arrangements. Out top five fave songs are:
Change In My Life, Free, All Eyes East, Waves Are Coming In and Let It Be. Our CD has 9 songs including Summer Time and All Eyes East.

The Scratchetts is highly recommended for under 16s.

Bridie Jackson has been running the children's branch of the Scratch Choir since 2007. It grew out of the successful summer workshops held at Durham Cathedral during August and now takes place during school terms at St. Joseph's Church in Gilesgate on Tuesdays (6 pm til 7.15 pm) from September 16th 2008.

The group ranges in age from 4 to 17 years and since adults need to accompany the under 8s a few parents have attended the sessions, giving it a real family atmosphere.

The children work on a range of material, including gospel songs, world music, folk, early music, body percussion and musical games.

In addition to the annual Cathedral workshops, the choir busk, attend workshops, perform in a range of venues, including York Minster and have just recorded their first album, due to be launched early next year.

Sheila Adamson and Paul Crilley also support the Children's choir and other members help out in the Cathedral workshops.
