About Us

Andy Jackson - our musical director

As well as the Scratch Choir, Andy directs the Cobweb Orchestra. He is a specialist in writing for amateur performers, seeing no conflict between music being playable by people with a range of abilities and having a social purpose whilst being challenging, serious, fun, and meaningful.

The choir has members from many different backgrounds, stages of life and professions. Some manage to work the choir into family life, others into their retirement or into the other demands of daily living. All would agree that the choir gives them a real and complete break from the pressures of daily life.

For some their involvement stretches further into playing with the Cobweb Orchestra, a large group of amateur musicians working under professional direction and playing anything from Greensleeves and Dirty Old town to Mahler and Beethoven.

The choir has members who have been there solidly for up to ten years whilst others come along new from one term to the next or rejoin after times away. The choir is a friendly welcoming group of people. Come along and see!
